Police hope citizens will offer information that will help them nab an armed robber who took off Tuesday with an "undisclosed amount" of cash from a rent-to-own business.
Statesboro Police Chief Stan York said officers responded around 7 p.m. Tuesday to Rentown on Northside Drive, where victims reported being robbed at gunpoint by a man wearing a "blue jump suit and a ski mask."
Victims told Statesboro Police Officer Dean Brown the robber,whom detectives said was carrying a handgun, was a black male, standing about 5'11" to 6' 1", with a medium build, he said.
Witnesses said "the suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency," he said.
Statesboro Det. Keith Holloway responded to the scene and began collecting evidence and witness statements as he opened an investigation, York said. "Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect in the robbery."
No one was injured during the robbery, he said.
Investigators did not disclose the type of hand gun used in the robbery. As of Thursday, police did not have any additional information regarding the incident.
York said citizens who may have information regarding the robbery could help by sharing it with police, and could give the information without risk.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division at 764-1542," he said. "Anyone providing information will be hold in strictest confidence."
