Statesboro Police Chief Stan York was sworn in as 4th Vice President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police earlier this week at a ceremony in Savannah.
The organization represents chiefs of police from across the state and among its responsibilities is the training and professional development of all police chiefs. It is the largest professional association for law enforcement administrators in Georgia and among the largest in the country.
It's membership includes more than 1,000 executives representing city and county law enforcement agencies, college and university police departments, corporate and private security firms and more.
In addition to training and professional development, the organization also seeks to elevate standards of police institutions and provide opportunities for police executives to exchange information and experiences.
York began his career in law enforcement in 1974 with the Tifton Police Department. He moved to Statesboro two years later and has worked his way through the ranks, becoming police chief in September, 2001.
