Police: 'Bored' teens stole vehicles
3 teens allegedly took the autos from a dealership
Jamalcom A. Bellamy

Three Evans County teens started off the new year Tuesday by stealing two vehicles from an automobile dealership in Hagan.
Trey Darian Grimes, 17, of Bowen Lane in Claxton; Jamalcom Antwon Bellamy, 17, of Magnolia Street in Claxton; and a 14-year-old male from Claxton were arrested just before 10 p.m. Tuesday in Statesboro when Statesboro police Officer Thomas McKeithen stopped a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado for speeding on South Main Street, Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Thursday morning.
Grimes, the driver, was charged with driving while unlicensed, speeding and felony theft by receiving stolen property. Upon further investigation by McKeithen, several vehicle keys with dealer tags were located on Grimes and in the vehicle, Turner said.
Statesboro police also charged Bellamy and the juvenile, whose name was withheld because of his age, with felony theft by receiving stolen property.
Police contacted car dealerships in the surrounding areas as well as the Evans and Toombs county sheriff’s departments, and learned the pickup truck had been left by the owner at Nesmith Chevrolet in Hagan.
The teens stole a second vehicle as well, but abandoned it in Claxton after it ran out of gas, Hagan Police Chief Kerry Blocker said. All three offenders were charged by Hagan police with second-degree burglary and two counts each of theft by taking auto.
The offenders used a bolt cutter to enter the dealership and stole several sets of keys. Apparently, Blocker said, they were “bored, with nothing else to do.”
Blocker praised Statesboro police for prompt action in helping solve the case.
“They did a very good job,” he said.
