Freddie Hagan, a 2020 graduate of both the Fish and Wildlife and Agribusiness programs at Ogeechee Technical College, was recently named OTC’s 2024 Outstanding Alumni.
Hagan began his college career at Ogeechee Tech in the Agribusiness program, but when he took a Fish and Wildlife class as an elective, he decided to double major and get two degrees. He has used what he learned in both programs to grow and excel his business, D & FH Farm.
His nominator wrote, “What impresses me about Freddie is how he plants crops and manages his farm to also benefit wildlife when he can. He regularly sends me information on wildlife or ideas about wildlife management that he can or has tried on his farm. I have shared many of the articles he has sent with my students.”
A farm in Statesboro, D & FH Farm specializes in organic practices to grow food and teach others to do the same. D & FH Farm is a source for fresh, sustainable goods in Bulloch County. With six farm locations spread throughout the region, they are rooted in the community and committed to harmony with both the land and animals.

“It wouldn’t be justice if I didn’t say that the instructors and faculty here at OTC, and the aura and spirit of OTC, were instrumental to help me get to where I am today,” Hagan said. “Even after I left school, we maintained that student/teacher relationship that has helped me continue to be successful. Thank you for this award and I will always have fond memories to reflect upon at OTC.”

Hagan is a member of Georgia Organics and Georgia Grown, he is on the Board of the Savannah/Chatham Food Policy Council, and is currently a produce vendor for Food World, Save-a-lot, Statesboro Market-to-go, and the Senior WIC program.

He is a grant recipient of the Georgia Grown Innovation/BIG grant and the 2023 Georgia Organics grant. Hagan has more than 10 years of experience in the areas of farm management, farm machinery operating, and growing, harvesting and packaging of produce. Also, he is a U.S. Army Reservist and served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a combat medic.

According to their website, each year the Outstanding Alumni award is presented to an Ogeechee Tech alumni who graduated within the last ten years, is making outstanding contributions and excelling in their chosen fields, who is giving back to their community and is dedicated to the advancement of the college.
