Two Metter juveniles reported missing Sunday vandalized and burglarized a local business while they were gone, Metter Police Chief Dennis Nelson said.
"Metter police officers, an investigator, and a Candler County sheriff's deputy performed an extensive search throughout the day for the missing brothers," he said, and police were at the boys' home around 6:30 p.m. Sunday when they returned unharmed.
Metter police Investigator Tim Platt and Candler County sheriff's Deputy Bryson Collins were at the residence meeting with the parents when the juveniles returned home, and when the parents began asking questions, the boys "admitted to being inside the fenced-in area of the Pineland Telephone Cooperative pole yard located on West Lee Street," Nelson said.
Metter police received a call about the business being burglarized, and officers learned the boys had broken into the business offices as well.
"They caused damage to property within the offices and had also taken several items from the business," Nelson said. "While we are very thankful for the safe return of the missing brothers, we are disappointed to learn of their involvement in criminal activity."
Both juveniles were charged with criminal damage to property and burglary.
