A Brooklet man was pistol-whipped and robbed Friday when he met with three others on a street corner to sell them a gaming system, said Brooklet Police Chief Doug Meyer.
One offender, Gary Matthews, 17, of Rushing Street in Brooklet, is behind bars on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and obstruction, according to jail records. Meyer said Matthews is originally from Richmond Hill.
The other two — Dontel Lee, 20, and Willie Fred Watson Jr., 43 — are still at large, and warrants have been issued for their arrests. The men are believed to be from the Statesboro/Brooklet area, Meyer said.
The victim met the three around 6:30 p.m. Friday near Prince Street and Julia Circle, where he expected to sell them the gaming system. Instead, the suspects pistol-whipped the victim and stole cash, the gaming console and other items before fleeing, Meyer said.
After Matthews’ arrest, “many of the items stolen were recovered,” he said.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Lee and Watson is asked to call the Brooklet Police Department at (912) 842-9911.
