Man arrested after crowd gathers near nightclub

Statesboro police arrested a man on outstanding warrants early Sunday morning after bouncers from a nearby club flagged down an officer to report an attempted automobile break-in. Bennie Ray Mitchell Jr., 29, of South College Street, was taken into police custody after trying to flee when Lt. Chuck Forney detained him for questioning, Statesboro Police Maj. Scott Brunson said. A crowd gathered in a parking lot around 3:40 a.m. Sunday after a bouncer flagged Forney down, reporting an attempted automobile break-in, he said.
