Police arrested a 73-year-old man on Friday who charged with molesting a 10-year-old girl.
Thomas Allen McKendrick, 72, of South Walnut Street, is being held in the Bulloch County Jail on charges of child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes, said Capt. James Winskey.
Statesboro police officers met with the juvenile victim and her mother Friday at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where the child was taken for a medical exam due to suspicion of sexual abuse, he said.
Detective Kevin Wadley, who is leading the investigation, responded to the emergency room and spoke with the complainant and her juvenile daughter.
"It was reported that this alleged incident could have possibly been occurring over the previous six months, and the suspect was known to the family," Winskey said.
Further investigation by Wadley resulted in McKendrick's arrest, he said. The case remains under investigation.
