Man, 20, charged with rape, burglary

A Statesboro man was arrested Monday afternoon, minutes after a woman told police she had been raped in a home.
At 2:09 p.m. Monday, Bulloch County sheriff's deputies responded to a home on Lindsey Court, in the Countryside subdivision, for a reported sexual assault that had just occurred.
The woman told deputies that a man she knows -- later identified as Alexander Rich, 20, of Solomon Circle -- sexually assaulted her and fled. She provided a description of Rich and direction of travel, according to a sheriff's office news release issued Tuesday.
A crime scene investigator arrived and began processing for evidence, and the search for Rich began. Eight minutes later, a sheriff's investigator saw Rich on Johnson Street in Statesboro and detained him without incident, the release says.
After interviewing the woman, Rich and other witnesses and collecting several items of physical evidence at the scene, deputies charged Rich with rape and first-degree burglary. He is in the Bulloch County Jail pending further judicial action.
