Worlanyo Gato, 14, an eighth-grade student at Southeast Bulloch Middle School, is all smiles after taking home the top trophy at Monday night's Bulloch County Spelling Bee, where 13 students competed for the title of champion. Gato will now advance to the Georgia Association of Educators' District 8 Spelling Bee on Feb. 24 in Brunswick, Ga., where he will compete against 33 county champions from 31 southeast Georgia counties. The winner of that bee will advance to the GAE State Spelling Bee on March 16 in Plains, Ga., and possibly the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in June. Worlanyo Gato, a 14-year-old eighth-grader at Southeast Bulloch Middle School, won the 2018 Bulloch County Spelling Bee held Monday evening at Statesboro High School. Gato grabbed the title after 10 rounds by correctly spelling the words "loam" and "newton" after his remaining challenger, Brianna Davis of Mattie Lively Elementary School, incorrectly spelled "haversack." Gato is the son of Worlanyo Eric and Vivian Gato of Statesboro.
