A suspect who saw a man with a “bundle of cash” at a Statesboro nightclub Friday night robbed him of the money hours later, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.
In a statement released Wednesday, Turner said Statesboro police officers responded around 2:50 a.m. to McDonald’s at Fair Road and Archway Drive, where a man said he was robbed at gunpoint. Police incident reports listed the amount stolen as $2,400.
The victim said the robber saw him at Platinum Lounge earlier with the roll of cash, Turner said.
Later, the suspect found the victim at McDonald’s and robbed him, he said.
“The victim reported that an unknown black male brandished a firearm from under his shirt and told the victim to sit down in the booth with him,” he said. “The victim states that the offender had seen him at the Platinum Lounge earlier that night with a bundle of currency.”
The victim sat down in the booth and handed the suspect the money while the gunman aimed a gun, underneath his shirt, at the victim, Turner said.
Once the suspect had the cash, the victim decided to fight back and a struggle over the gun ensued, Turner said.
Getting control of the gun, the victim threw it away from him, but a second man who was with the offender grabbed it and returned it to the gunman, Turner said. Then, the suspect left the restaurant.
The robber is described as a black male, wearing a red shirt, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall with a medium build.
    No injuries were reported.
