Excelsior EMCs 70th Annual Meeting of Members set for Friday

    Excelsior EMC’s 70th Annual Meeting of Members is set for today, at the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Building on the campus of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
    Registration for the meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. The business session starts at 2:30 p.m. and will contain reports on the operation of the cooperative during the past year, as well as information on ongoing projects and future. Additional highlights of the meeting will include the election of directors, a presentation of Georgia Senate Resolution 825 by Sen. Jack Hill  that recognizes and commends the Excelsior on its 70th year of service, presentation of employee service awards and door prizes for members in attendance. Ice cream will be served to all attendees after adjournment.
    Excelsior EMC is an electrical distribution cooperative serving more than 21,000 consumers in parts of eight southeast Georgia counties across 3,140 miles of power line.  Counties served include Bryan, Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Jenkins and Tattnall. Annual kilowatt hour (kWh) sales exceeded 384 million kWhs in 2007.  
    The Georgia Public Service Commission’s Winter 2008 Residential Rate Survey indicated that Excelsior EMC was among the lowest cost providers of electricity among Georgia Power and all other electric cooperatives in the state. At 1,000 kWhs, 1,500 kWhs and 2,000 kWhs Excelsior EMC ranked second lowest.  The average sized home with 1,500 to 1,800 square feet of living area will use approximately 1,500 to 2,000 kWhs per month when heating and cooling is required.
