Qualifying for several local partisan offices begins Monday, with one office being vacated by the incumbent.
Long-time Bulloch County Clerk Sherri Akins, a Democrat, will not run again, she said Friday.
“I’m not running, but my Chief Deputy Clerk Teresa Tucker plans to qualify,” she said. Tucker, who has been chief deputy under Akins since 1980 and employed with the clerk’s office since 1979, hopes to take over the reins if elected.
“I fully endorse her and will be working towards her election,” Akins said.
Qualifying fees for Clerk of Superior Court is $1,894.94.
Joey Cowart, state court solicitor-general, plans to seek a third term in office, he said Thursday. Cowart, as well as anyone else qualifying for solicitor-general, will pay a qualifying fee of $2,883.79. Cowart is Republican.
Bulloch County Surveyor Lamar Reddick, Republican, will seek office once again as well, paying a qualifying fee of $100, he said.
Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch, also a Republican, will qualify to run again, and said he is “looking forward t o serving Bulloch County again.” Those qualifying for that office will pay a fee of $714.
Qualifying fees for Bulloch County Tax Commissioner are $1,894.94, and long-time tax commissioner James Deal, Republican, said he intends to run again also.
Qualifying for these offices begins Monday at 9 a.m. and ends May 2 at noon.
Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Richard Mallard will also qualify this week, but qualifying for that office is done in Atlanta, he said. He expects to pay a qualifying fee “around $3,000.”
