A 12-year-old boy was killed Sunday afternoon as a result of an ATV accident, according to Georgia State Patrol reports.
Shane Green, 12, son of Brian and Jackie Green of Montgomery Drive, Statesboro, died at Memorial Health University Medical center in Savannah after being airlifted there Sunday, said Trooper First-Class Earl Anderson.
The child was riding his four-wheeler at a friend’s home on Cliponreka Road when he rode down a driveway and into the road, he said.
He was struck in the left side by a utility truck driven by Ray C. Beasley, 54, of Cliponreka Road.
Beasley “tried an evasive move” but was unable to avoid striking the boy on the ATV, Anderson said.
Green was ejected from the four-wheeler and tossed 49 feet, landing in the roadway. He suffered blunt force trauma, head trauma and internal injuries, he said.
No charges were filed.
