Former Chicago Bears and Georgia Southern running back Adrian Peterson will speak this week at the Coca-Cola Leadership Summit.
The summit will have other speakers, including Andre Weathers, a former Georgia Southern football player and teammate of Peterson. Local business supporters, including Olivia Aseron of Shane’s Rib Shack and Mellow Mushroom, will also attend.
It will take place at the Boys and Girls Club of Bulloch County at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Peterson will address the issue of childhood obesity and emphasize the importance of exercise and nutrition, as well as helping kids to better their self-esteem.
In addition, Peterson will be at the Leadership Summit to promote his new autobiography, “Don’t Dis My Abilities,” the inspirational story of how he overcame his disability, a speech impediment, to reach his dreams of playing professional football.
He will be available on the weekend of Sept. 28 at Georgia Southern so fans can have him sign copies of his book and meet him. Books are currently available for preorder at the Georgia Southern University Store, 91 Georgia Ave., and will be released Sept. 28. Preorders also can be placed with Ramona Rushing at (912) 478-5181.
The first book signing will be sponsored by Franklin Automotive Group 11 a.m. Sept. 28. Peterson also will meet with fans during the pool party at University Village at Southern from 2-3 p.m. Copies of his book and exclusive P3 gear will be available at the University Store, where fans will have another opportunity to meet him around 4 p.m. The night will close with the Hall of Fame Dinner at 7 p.m., when Peterson will be officially inducted into the Georgia Southern Athletics Hall of Fame.
On Sept. 29, there will be more chances for fans and readers to meet Peterson, as well as get copies of their books signed. Starting at 10 a.m., he will sign his book in the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in an event sponsored by EaglesGATA.com, followed by another signing at the University Store at 1 p.m. Right before the game against Samford, there will be a tailgate party catered by Shane’s Rib Shack and Mellow Mushroom. Fans are invited to come out for some delicious food and prepare the game to follow. The tailgate starts at 4 p.m., and the game itself kicks off at 6 p.m. at Paulson Stadium.
