A man suspected of truck theft and burglary in two counties is behind bars, along with two others who also are suspected to have been involved in the crimes.

Bulloch County sheriff's deputies responded on Oct. 15 to a burglary alarm at an Old Bowen Store Road home and found that someone had forced entry into the residence, taking several items, including a gun, said Sheriff Lynn Anderson.

Investigator Dusty Williams, during his investigation, focused on a suspicious silver Ford F-250 seen in the area at the time of the crime. Working closely with Evans County Sheriff Randall Tippins and his deputies, Williams located video surveillance from an Evans County convenience store that showed a man and woman loitering near the truck just before it was stolen on Oct. 14, the night before the Old Bowen Store Road burglary. Also, "potential DNA evidence" was collected from the scene of the burglary, Anderson said.

The truck was found abandoned in Bulloch County on Oct. 16.

The next day, Oct. 17, Evans County sheriff's deputies located and detained Robert Green, 33, and Deanna Hibbs, 28, both of Olliff Street in Claxton, as well as Dashaun Smalls, 21, of David Street in Claxton, Anderson said.

Further investigation connected Green to both the truck theft and burglary. He is being held in the Evans County Jail, awaiting court action on the truck theft charges, and later will be transported to the Bulloch County Jail on charges of burglary.

Hibbs and Smalls were taken to the Bulloch County Jail, each charged with theft by taking stolen property and party to the crime of burglary, Anderson said.
