Statesboro's Zach Taylor has been drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates - the 925th selection overall.

The former Blue Devils outfielder was thrilled to have his name called on Thursday morning.

"It feels awesome," he said. "Even though its the 31st round, it still feels good."

Taylor said he was contacted on Wednesday by the club and offered a contract less than Taylor's minimal offer. Thus, Taylor believes the team took a chance on picking him up in the later rounds.

"I told them I wouldn't go down, so I guess they wouldn't draft me near as high," Taylor explained. "They tried to draft me as late as possible. They're gonna watch me this summer - they might give me my number, they might not."

If Taylor doesn't decide to sign with the Pirates, he still has an offer from Georgia to play in Athens in 2010.

As for Taylor's teammate Crawford Simmons, he is still waiting for Kansas City to make him an offer. The Royals drafted the left-handed pitcher at 422 on Wednesday.

Georgia Southern pitcher Dexter Bobo was also drafted on Thursday at No. 1315 by Pittsburgh.
