The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets (3-0, 1-0) got an unexpected bye last Friday night, as their game with Savannah High was cancelled due to concerns with hurricane Florence. That game will be made up on Tuesday Oct. 9, at 7:00. As for this week the Jackets are trying to prepare for a home matchup with the Beach Bulldogs.
“We didn’t change our routine this past week,” said Yellow Jacket head coach Barrett Davis. “When we got the call Wednesday that the game was moved we have our kids a day off, then began to prepare for Beach.”
The Jackets have had to come from behind in two of their three wins this year, and have done so behind a balanced offensive attack, and an opportunistic defense who have created six turnovers in their three games.
The Southeast Bulloch offense has averaged over 285 yards of total offnese per game, and are being led by running back Jamaro Daniels who has rushed for over 100 yards in each game, and is currently averaging over 130 yards per game.
“We feel like things are going pretty well,” Davis said. “At this point we are just ready to play a game. Our plans got thrown off last week, but we were able to heal up a little bit, and we are ready to play Friday.”
This week the Jackets will be taking on a Beach Bulldog team that has truly been struggling this year. Not only are they 0-3 but they have been defeated by an average score off 38-7 in those three games.
“After watching film I can say that Beach has some athletes,” Davis said. “They play hard from start to finish, and we are expecting them to come here and give us a good game, despite their record.”
Last year the Jackets knocked off the Bulldogs 30-13 behind a huge night from Chase Walker, and while walker may be gone the Jackets should be overwhelming favorites once again.
We can’t overlook anybody,” Davis said. “They do some kind of unique things on offense. They go to the spread some, and then they will go to the wing-T under center. They also mix things up on defense, but I feel we have a good plan that we will hopefully go out and execute.”
Southeast Bulloch and Beach are slated for a 7:30 kickoff in Brooklet.
