The Bulloch Academy Gators finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record and with a 35-0 win over George Walton last week, are off to the state GIAA 4-A semifinals.

The Gators have had their fare share of injuries this season and one of the key players to have had to miss significant time is leading rusher Isaiah Smart. Smart played in a limited capacity in the Gator’s season finale against Pinewood, but really exploded back on the scene in last week’s playoff win as he rushed for over 217 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns.

“Isaiah showed Friday night what he is really capable of,” said coach Aaron Phillips. “I think we did a good job of working through him and Reid Clifton both being out, but having them back really shows us how much depth we have at the running back position. He has a great blend of speed and power and when he gets in the open field there are not a lot of people who are going to be able to catch him.”

“It’s been great to finally be healthy and be back in the lineup,” Smart said. “I think the team has been able to do a good job with me and Reid Clifton both being out but it’s fun for us to both be back. I think we have a great chance of being able to win and get into the state championship if we can just continue to do the things we have done which have gotten us to this point.”
