It’s never a surprise to see Bulloch Academy run wild on the football field, but Harrison Averitt turned in a performance last Friday that was impressive even by the Gators’ standards.
The senior running back ripped off 285 yards on just 14 carries — including touchdown runs of 77 and 59 yards — in the Gators’ 44-18 win over Robert Toombs Christian Academy.
As one of the featured backs in Bulloch’s triple option, Averitt is always a threat to have a big game, but plenty of work goes into the Gators’ rushing attack before they can let loose on Friday nights.
“Even though we go through it every day, it’s still a tough offense to execute,” said Averitt. “We all have to be on the same page for things to work.”
Everything has been working just fine for Averitt so far this season. He leads all area rushers with 456 yards — good for an astounding average of 16.9 yards per carry. Heading into the season, the Gators had plenty of production to replace with the departure of Jaylen Evans and Chris Young, but Averitt has become the workhorse that has Bulloch rolling towards another state playoff appearance.
