Local Roundup: SEB cruises to shutout

    SAVANNAH — The Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets had no problems in region action on the road, blanking New Hampstead 5-0 on Friday.
    Five different SEB players scored a goal in the win.
    Rayna Cowart, Emma Britt, Ana Olsen, Morgan Friend and Cole Robertson each scored. Robertson also had a pair of assists, and Friend added an assist.
    Monica Schubert preserved the shutout with a pair of saves in goal.
    The Jackets (4-5, 2-1 Region 1-AAA) are back in action when they host Statesboro on Tuesday.

Lady Gamecocks top Westside
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks knocked off Westside on Friday at home with a 3-0 shutout.
    Lindsey Thomas, Haleigh Thompson and Anna Smith each found the goal for the Gamecocks (6-4, 4-3 Region 3-AA), and Tyshala Scruggs added an assist.
    Keeper Whitney Gay recorded six saves.
    Laney visits Screven County on Monday.
Eagles host Elon Phoenix
    The Georgia Southern softball Eagles play in their final SoCon home opening series this weekend against Elon, beginning today at 1 p.m.             The Eagles (18-10, 2-1 SoCon) are 26-11 all-time against the Phoenix and 15-3 at Eagle Field. GSU has won six-straight contests in the series.
    Georgia Southern Head Coach Annie Smith is on her way to becoming the fastest coach in Georgia Southern history to 100 wins. She enters the Elon series with a 93-60 career record.

McFarlane sets GSU best
    TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Sherril McFarlane, who already owns two Georgia Southern indoor track records, began adding her name to the outdoor list Friday at FSU Relays with a 4:41.09 time in the 1500 meter race. McFarlane finished 10th among collegiate competitors, broke the five-year-old record and trimmed more than half a second off her personal best time.
