Local Roundup: Metter holds off Portal rally

    PORTAL — Metter led Portal, 61-49, with three minutes left, and held off a furious rally by the Panthers to escape with a 69-67 win Friday at the Portal Holiday Classic.
    Portal (6-2) got plenty of offense.
    Stacy Morgan led the Panthers with 18 points. Shaun Hagins (14), Robert Lee (13) and Marquis Wells (11) all finished in double figures.
    Metter (3-7) was led by Trent Thomas, who scored a game-high 19 points.
    Quinton Simmons added 16, and Malik Kelly added 10.
    Both teams wrap up play at the tournament today.

Lady Panthers fall to SEHS
    PORTAL — The Portal Lady Panthers closed out the Portal Holiday Classic with a 53-31 loss on Friday to South Effingham.
    The Panthers (5-3) were led by Shianne Hagins and Breyonna Raymond, who each scored 11 points.
    Portal returns to action on the road after the new year, facing Savannah Country Day at 6 p.m. on Jan. 4.

Tattnall Square hands BA first loss
    MACON — The Bulloch Academy Lady Gators saw a 12-game losing streak snapped by Tattnall Square Academy in a 57-42 decision Friday in the semifinals of the Tattnall Square Tournament in Macon.
    Tattnall was led by a future Florida State Seminole, Ivey Slaughter, who led all scorers with 26 points.
    Bulloch saw two double-digit scorers in Hannah Newton (12 points) and Ashley Burke (10)
    The Gators will face Westfield, which lost Friday to Arlington Christian in the other semifinal, today at 4 p.m. in the tournament's consolation game.

SEB accepting HoF nominations
    BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee will be accepting Hall of Fame nomination forms until Feb. 15.
    Nomination forms can be dow loaded from school’s website at http://sbhs.bulloch.k12.ga.us or picked up from offices at Southeast High School and Middle school.
    The Hall of Fame banquet will take place on Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m., in the SEB High School cafeteria.
