PEMBROKE — There wasn't much Tiffany Howard didn't do in Bryan County's first GHSA Class A state playoff matchup.
In a doubleheader against No. 4 seed Pacelli Wednesday, Howard struck out 23 total batters, went 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and a solo homer and led the No. 1 seed Lady Redskins (28-7) to wins of 2-0 and 4-2 to advance to the second round of state.
Howard scored both runs in the opening, 2-0 win over Pacelli, on RBIs from Sierra Newman and Taylor Butler.
Howard hit a solo homer in Game 2's 4-2 win, and improved her pitching record to 25-6 on the back of 11 strikeouts.
Jerri Hines, Elana Walker and Sierra Cornell each doubled in the game, in which Bryan County never trailed.
Bryan will face a best-of-three series against the winner between No. 3 Irwin County and No. 2 Miller County Wednesday in a doubleheader at home.
