Local Roundup - Bryan, Jenkins take region titles

BROOKLET — The Bryan County girls track team tallied 155 points to claim the 2011 Region 3-A title, and the Jenkins County boys took the top prize with 163 points Thursday at the Region 3-A championships held at Southeast Bulloch Tuesday and Thursday.
    Jenkins County won the championship for the eighth time in the last nine years.
    The War Eagles had seven athletes qualify for the state meet.
    First-place finishers were Marvin London (400-meter dash), DeWayne Snelling (800, 1600), Jonathon Taylor (shot put) and the 4x100m relay team of London, Brad Emerson, James Prescott and Jay Bowers.
    James Deloach took second place in the shot put and the discus.
    Ayana Walker of the Lady War Eagles won high point for the girls, finishing with 34.5 points. She took first place and qualified for state in the 200, 400, long jump and the 4x100 relay. She finished second in the 4x400 relay.
    On the 4x100 team, it was Walker, Zandra Lake, Shae Burke and Shenice Thompson taking first, and the 4x400 team took second.
    Lake also placed first in the 100 hurdles, second in the triple jump and fifth in the 300 hurdles.
    Claxton’s first place finishers were Jasmine Brewton (discus), Logan Carpenter (pole vault) and Trey Smith (100, 200). Second-place finishers were Sharlica Smith (discus), the 4x100 relay team of Jade Bell, Brianna Van Deurson, Envoquisha Bellamy and Alejandra Ramirez, Evan Credeur (pole vault), Shavez Mincey (400), Justin Hagan (100, 200), Juan Salas (3200) and the 4x400 relay team of Tevin Valentine, Mincey, Trey Smith and Da’V’L Brewton.
    Bryan County’s first-place finishers were Tiffany Howard (triple jump, 800, 1600), Sierra Newman (100), Kimberly Williams (300, high jump) and the 4x400 relay team of Howard, Williams, Newman and Rachel Anderson.
    Second-place finishers for BCHS were Williams (400, Newman (200) and Alli Thompson (100 hurdles).
    Metter qualified two for state. Dean Eason finished second in the long jump and the triple jump, and Mike Edwards finished second in the high jump.
