    The Bulloch Academy Gatord pounded St. Andrew's to the tune of a 15-2 win on Tuesday.
    Will Lawson led the way at the plate, finishing 3-for-3.
    Jarrett Humphries and Will Lawson each went 2-for-3.
    Three pitchers combined for the victory.
    The Gators return to action Friday when they travel to Edmund Burke Academy.

Knight given SoCon honor
    SPARTANBURG, S.C. —Georgia Southern sophomore Anna Claire Knight has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for March 6, the league office announced Wednesday.
    Knight averaged 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Eagles. The sophomore shot 47 percent from the floor and 33 percent from 3-point range. She posted 19 points and four rebounds in a win over UNCG and followed that by matching a career high with 24 points to go along with nine rebounds against Elon. The Eagles open play in the
Southern Conference Tournament Friday against Western Carolina at 11:30 a.m. in Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville.

Bulloch opens with EBA sweep
    Playing at their brand-new, four-court facility on the school’s campus, the Lady Gators blanked the Lady Spartans 6-0 while the BA boys pulled out a 3-2 win.
    In girls’ singles, Ally Cheshire whipped Jayne Jenkins 8-0, Meghan Barber downed Jessie Jenkins 8-2, Miriam Rasenberger did the same to Mary Lynn Murray and Abigail Smith nipped Ginny Lana Crawford 8-6. In doubles, the duo of Anna Mallard and Caitlin Barber downed Sammi Jo Evans and Kasin Hargrove 8-4 while the team of Haley Mock and Lyndsey Wasdin drilled Emily Hanbury and Lillian Reeves 8-1.
    In boys’ singles, Cody Lanier took down Shurden Rivers 8-3, John Ellis Howell blanked David Memde 8-0 and Robbie O’Sullivan defeated Jordan Keller 8-2. In doubles, Elliott Propes and Griffen Walker were nipped 8-5 by Austin Daniels and Zach Tant while Asa Johnson and Henry Blitch were defeated by Baker Story and Peter Catus.

Blue Devils roll past Bradwell
    The Statesboro Blue Devils beat visiting Bradwell institute, 11-1, in five innings Wednesday at Mill Creek.
    The Blue Devils (5-3) were led offensively by Connor Akins (2-for-3, RBI) and Jackson Ware (2-for-4).
    Colin Chance got the win on the mound.
    Statesboro returns to the diamond Monday when it faces Southeast Bulloch in Brooklet.

GSU women release spring schedule
    Georgia Southern women's soccer announced its 2013 spring schedule.
    The 2012 Southern Conference Champions will be playing five games total including three home games at Eagle Field in the early phases of spring competition.
    For the first test of the spring, the Eaglestake on Georgia College and State University on Saturday, March 9 at 4 p.m., followed by a three-week break from competition. The Eagles will then meet Armstrong Atlantic on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. before concluding their home slate with a game against conference foe Charleston at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 7.
    The team will finish out the spring season at Clemson and Georgia.

Lady Gamecocks pound Laney
    AUGUSTA — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 in region play) ran all over Laney Wednesday, winning 10-0 in region action.
    Eight different players scored goals, with Hannah Jones and Anna Smith each scoring twice.
    Laney did not attempt a shot in the game.
    Screven travels to Augusta Friday to play a region game against A.R. Johnson Magnet School in Lucy Laney Stadium.

SCHS dominates Tigers
    SWAINSBORO — Screven County Gamecocks plastered Swainsboro for 15 runs across four innings and blanked the Tigers, 15-0, on Wednesday.
    Screven (2-0) plated 12 runs in the first inning. The Gamecocks were led at the plate by Aaron Bower and Bailey Pollock, who each recorded two hits. Shadon Kenp, Seth Warren and Caleb Krukic each drove in two runs.
    Alan Tapley and Bobby Hodges combined for the shutout.
    Screven will play its first home game of the season today against Cross Creek.

Screven sweeps SCPS
    SAVANNAH — The Screven County boys and girls tennis teams each defeated Savannah Christian Wednesday at Bacon Park in Savannah.
    The boys (3-4) won, 4-1.
    Ryan Bazemore (3-6, 6-1, 10-5) and Raj Patel (6-2, 6-1) won singles matches, and doubles matches were swept by Clay Kirkland and Jacob Lariscy (6-4, 6-4), and Dylan Kock and Zachary Weaver (6-1, 6-0).
    The Lady Gamecocks (5-2) swept SCPS, 5-0,
    Singles winners were Mallorie Boswell (6-0, 6-0), Jancy Durrence (6-2, 6-3) and Kari Lane (6-0, 6-1). Doubles winners were Pamela Wooten and Haley Jackson (6-2, 6-1), and Laura Stuart and Victoria Winters (6-2, 6-1).
    The Gamecocks will face Harlem on the road on Tuesday.
