The Bulloch Academy girls’ and boys’ tennis teams downed David Emanuel Academy Friday on the courts at Forest Heights Country Club.
In girls’ singles action, Ally Cheshire downed Lauren Bridges 8-3, Meghan Barber blanked Abbie Kemp 8-0 and Anna Mallard defeated Alie Canady 8-2. In doubles, the team of Caitlin Barber and McKenzie Webb took down Jessica Wimberly and Nikki Dye 8-2 while Claire Hiller and Mia Howard beat Cee Jae Garrett and Coty Garrett 8-3.
The Lady Gators improved to 7-1 on the season and will host Augusta Prep on April 12 in a season-ending showdown for the region regular-season team title. The Region 4-AAA individual tournament is April 13 at the Newman Tennis Center in Augusta.
In boys’ singles action, Brandon Walker downed Baba Gana 8-3, Cody Lanier took Caleb Morris 8-4 and John Ellis Howell downed Zach Tant 8-4.
In doubles, Stephen Burnsed and Robbie O’Sullivan lost 1-8 to Hayward Johnson and Kolo Gana while Asa Johnson and Ben Carico dropped a 3-8 match to Ridge Holland and Thomas Norton.
The Gators improved to 5-3 on the season. The Gators face Augusta Prep on April 12 and participate in the region tournament the next day.
Lady Eagles face JU
Georgia Southern Softball returns to action today against Jacksonville to close out the month at Eagle Field.
The Eagles (17-18, 7-2 SoCon) return home for Tuesday's 3 p.m. doubleheader following a series victory against College of Charleston. The Eagles rallied in the late innings to take the final two games of the weekend series.
Tuesday's games are the 11th and 12th meetings between the Eagles and Dolphins all-time with the Eagles holding a 7-3 lead in the series. Georgia Southern has won three of the last four games in the series including a pair of victories last year on Florida's First Coast.
Senior Megen Smith was the hero of Sunday's series finale. The utility player hit a towering home run over the left-centerfield fence to give the Eagles a 6-5 lead. The home run was Smith's seventh of the season and her 20th RBI.
Statesboro baseball moved to today
The Statesboro Blue Devils were rained out Monday for their scheduled game against South Effingham.
The game will take place today at Mill Creek at 5:30 p.m.
