Local Roundup: BA falls to John Milledge in tourney

    MARTINEZ — John Milledge Academy had a surge of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and held off Bulloch Academy 68-63 on Tuesday in the first round of the GISA Region 4-AAA tournament at Augusta Prep.
    The Gators held a two-point lead after three quarters before falling behind.
    Smith Reeves led the Gators with 22 points, and Ja'Darius Smith added 19.

GSU soccer earns academic award
    Georgia Southern men’s soccer is one of 273 collegiate teams across all divisions to earn the National Soccer Coaches Association of America team academic award for 2013. The Eagles recorded a team GPA of 3.02 to pick up the award.
    It is the second-straight season that the Eagles have earned the honor. Overall, the Eagles have won four NSCAA team academic awards since the honor was instituted in 1996.

Knight, McGowan honored by SoCon
    SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Southern Conference has named Georgia Southern junior Anna Claire Knight its women’s basketball Player of the Week and Eagle rookie Angel McGowan the CRONS Freshman of the Week, the league announced today.
    The duo combined for 57 points in Georgia Southern’s 90-82 win at Davidson last Saturday in their only action of the week.
    Knight scored a career-high 31 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots while shooting 53 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range. It was her second Player of the Week award this season.
