Bacon knocks Screven from state playoffs

    SYLAVNIA — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks were swept in a doubleheader against Bacon County Wednesday in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs.
    Having dropped the first game, 6-0, the Lady Gamecocks (13-15) fought back in the second game, when Rebekah Woods rocked a two-run home run to put SCHS ahead 2-1 in the top of the fifth
inning.
    Bacon tied the game in the bottom half of the frame, and scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth, despite Screven out-hitting the Lady Red Raiders, 7-4.
    Woods finished with two hits, and Taryn Burns added two hits as well.
    Dawn Stewart pitched both games, and allowed only five earned runs through 14 innings pitched on the day.
    Bacon County will advance to the second round of the playoffs to face the winner between Early County and Monticello.
