Athlete of the Week: Weaver helps Screven win title
Weaver

Another tennis season has culminated in another sub-region title for the Screven County girls, and Sydnee Weaver is setting the pace for the Lady Gamecocks.
With a win over Swainsboro Tuesday, Screven capped a perfect run through Region 3A-AA and clinched the top seed for the sub-region tournament April 11 in Augusta.
Weaver has competed at the No.1 singles spot for the Gamecocks this season, and while her 6-5 personal record might not be as gaudy as the No. 1 singles players at other schools, she has done a great job of taking on the best that each opponent has to offer while notching more than her share of wins.
With Weaver holding her own, the rest of the Gamecocks have taken advantage and racked up points to assemble a 10-2 record.
Screven figures to be bound for the state tournament once more and will be looking for its 15th Final Four appearance in 16 seasons.
Even though this will be Weaver’s final year on the tennis court, she still has an athletic career waiting at the next level. Her success on the softball diamond has earned her a scholarship to Young Harris College, where she will compete on the 2012 squad.
