After a Final Four run last season, no one was quite sure what to expect from the 2010 squad.
The Lady Gators lost a handful of starters and a move up to the highest classification of the Georgia Independent School Association meant that bigger and better competition was in store.
Bulloch was unphased and compiled an 18-9 record and made it to the Elite Eight of the state playoffs thanks in large part to the contributions of centerfielder Rachel Gilbert.
The senior’s great defense and solid bat helped a young Gator team get within a game of advancing to another Final Four.
“I was hitting the ball pretty well to start the season,” said Gilbert. “I went into a little bit of a slump for awhile, but I was glad that I was able to get hot again at the end and help us out in big games.”
Even more helpful is the leadership that Gilbert showed on and off the field to a very young group of Gators.
“I just tried to go out there and do my best everyday,” said Gilbert. “We have a lot of girls who are pretty good. I think that we proved to ourselves that we can compete at the highest level. I’m sure that they’ll be back again next season.”
