The Southeast Bulloch football team may be done for the season, but their cheerleaders are still going strong.
This weekend, the Lady Yellow Jackets travel to Columbus for the GHSA state cheerleading competition.
SEB is one of 16 squads remaining in the AA classification and advanced to Columbus with a second-place finish in its region.
“We’re all excited to be going to state,” said senior captain Christen Carter. “We’ve got a really strong group of girls. We didn’t have any seniors with us last season, so everyone is back.”
Carter, who has cheered for the Jackets in all four of her years at SEB, thinks that this season’s squad might be the strongest that she has been a part of. The Jackets advanced to the state competition in 2007 and 2008 before falling just shy last season.
Now, Carter and company are headed back and are ready to turn heads.
“Getting back to state was definitely a goal,” said Carter. “We even booked our hotel back in August for more motivation. I think that we’re going to have a really good showing.”
The championships take place on Saturday in Columbus.
