As the cross country season winds down, Bulloch Academy’s Emily Morgan is heating up.
Early in the season, Morgan turned in times in the 26:00-27:00 range, but set a season best last month at Mount de Sales with a 23:17 and is now consistently near the front of the pack.
“It’s all about being dedicated and working hard every day,” said Morgan, who hasn’t missed a practice all season. “In cross country, improving as the season goes on is everyone’s goal. I’ve worked on getting my strides right and I’ve gotten my times down, so I’m happy with that.”
Last week, Morgan finished seventh in the Gators’ meet at David Emanuel.
Now, Morgan has her sights set on the region championships at Augusta Prep School where she has set a personal goal to finish in the top 10.
“I feel like I’m prepared for it,” said Morgan. “We’ve had meets up there before, so that’s a little bit of an advantage since all courses are different. At Augusta, it’s a mile-long loop that we run three times. Knowing those kind of things help with pacing, so hopefully I’ll improve from last time.”
