He may only be a freshman and his 112 pounds might not seem like a lot, but there aren’t many people as dominating as Bulloch Academy’s Daniel Hendrix.
Wrestling in the Gators’ second lowest weight class, Hendrix has been automatic this season. He has suffered just one defeat and is the top seed at 112 pounds heading into the Region 3I-AAA meet Saturday at Trinity Christian School in Dublin.
“I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been mostly successful on the mat,” said Hendrix. “I owe it to the fact that I train hard and always give it maximum effort.”
All of that effort now has Hendrix and his teammates on the verge of winning their first region title in the sport. The Gators have seven wrestlers that are top seeds in the region meet and figure to make some noise in state as well.
“Winning region would definitely be huge for the school,” said Hendrix. “It’s somewhere we’ve never been, but we’ve won some big tournaments this season, so I think that everyone will have the right amount of confidence to win the region.”
Saturday’s meet will run all day and the top four finishers in each weight class will advance to the state finals.
