The East division of Region 3-A is one of the most competitive regions in the state for football, but Portal and Claxton managed to place an impressive 22 players on the All-Region squad for the recently-completed season.
Leading the way was Claxton quarterback Cornelius Taylor who eared Offensive Player of the Year honors in his first season under center for the Tigers.
Claxton offensive lineman Dalton Stewart and Darvis Small — named to the ‘athlete’ slot — made the first string offensive team.
On the second team offense, Jannish Buchner (K, Portal), Edgar Duran (TE, Claxton), Darius Huff (RB, Portal), Casey Jones (RB, Portal), Tanner Lee (WR, Claxton), Jameson Mikell (OL, Portal), Deante Mincey (OL, Claxton), and Devante Reynolds (OL, Claxton) all made the cut.
Both squads contributed heavily to the first team defense which includes Devante Bacon (DL, Claxton), Evan Cruduer (DL, Claxton), Andy Harlow (DL, Portal), Harrison Sherrod (DB, Portal), Trent Thomas (LB, Portal), Marquise Wells (DB, Portal) and Tyquan Williams (LB, Claxton).
Marty Chappell (DL, Claxton), Donyah Hardaway (LB, Portal), Chase Kirkland (P, Portal) and Darnell Williams (DB, Claxton) rounded things out on the second team defense.
State runner up Calvary Day had the most representation on the all-region list with 14 players, including the overall Player of the Year, quarterback Michael Peterson.
