Southeast Bulloch pitchers Joseph Wilson and David McCarthy combined for a no- hitter and nine strikeouts Tuesday to lift the Yellow Jackets to a 12-2 home win over Josey. It was the second straight win for SEB.
Wilson picked up the victory for SEB (5-3), who was led at the plate by Dustin Stall (4-for-4, four RBIs) Casey Woodrum (1-for-2, triple, three runs scored), Fisher Strickland (1-for-2, three RBIs) and Justin Daniels (1-for-2).
The Jackets host Jefferson County Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Bryan County’s Wilkes throws no-hitter
Wesley Wilkes threw a complete game no-hitter and struck out nine to lead Bryan County to a 4-3 home win over Savannah Country Day Tuesday.
Aaron Dudley went 4-for-5 to lead the Redskins (4-6, 1-2) while Ricky Myrick was 1-for -4 and drove in the game-winning run. Other top hitters for Bryan County were: Kurt Shuman (2-for-4), Andrew Cook (1-for-4, double), Justin Covington (1-for-1), Barry Spencer (1-for-2) and Wilkes (1-for-3, double).
The Redskins travel to Portal for a 6 p.m. game Friday.
Portal improves to
3-0 in region
The Portal baseball team improved to 3-0 in Region 3-A and 6-5 overall with an 8-4 win at Claxton Tuesday. Brandon Mock was the winning pitcher, throwing 10 strikeouts and going 3-for-4 at the plate. Derrick Finch was 2-for-4 with four RBIs for the Panthers, while Tagg Lanier went 1-for-2, Vinnie Lynn was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and Wally Brown 1-for-4 with two RBIs. The Panthers host Bryan County at 6 p.m. Friday.
SEB golf tops Swainsboro
The Southeast Bulloch boys golf team beat Swainsboro, 175-186, in a Region 3-A nine-hole match at Smithfield Golf Club Tuesday.
Michael Waters led SEB with a 2-over 38, Jason Smith shot a 6-over 42, Robert Fields a 9-over 45 and Slade Hall a 9-over 45. SEB’s other two golfers, Andy Ulmer and Marlan Eller, shot a 51 and 54 respectively.
SEB plays Jenkins County Monday at Southern Links.
Screven soccer wins
The Screven County girls soccer team beat Westside-Augusta, 3-1, at home Tuesday to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in Area 4 A-AA. Nicole Miller scored twice for the Lady Gamecocks and Hailey Iten had one goal. Anna Woods recorded two assists for Screven, which travels to Vidalia for a 5:30 p.m. game Thursday.
Statesboro, Screven tennis split
The Statesboro and Screven County tennis teams split their matches Tuesday with the Screven girls (7-2) winning 5-0 and Statesboro’s boys earning a 4-1 victory.
For the girls, Carly Bess Williams defeated Olivia Chester, 6-2, 6-0, Whitney Waters beat Olivia burnsed, 6-1, 6-0, and Kate Blackburn topped Rachel Nevil, 6-0, 6-0, in singles action.
Natalie Hunter and Carter Mills beat Brittany Anderson and McKenzie Bragg, 6-1, 6-0, and Evan Sheppard and Missy Zeagler topped Meredith Hein and Beth Pollak, 6-0, 6-2.
In the boys matches, SHS’s Jordan Jones defeated Eric Boddiford, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, John Pollak topped Bo Evans, 6-4, 7-5, Michael Campbell and Tyler Richardson beat Samuel Woods and Adrian Graham, 7-6, 6-2, and Jeffery Corley and Samay Bhushan defeated Zachary Parker and Hunter Sommers, 6-2, 6-4.
Screven’s Kyle Reynolds beat John Washington, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 2 singles for the Gamecocks’ (6-3) only win of the afternoon.

BA JV soccer wins
The Bulloch Academy junior varsity girls soccer team beat Central Fellowship Christian Academy 2-1 Tuesday in Bonaire. Haley Burke and Erin O’ Sullivan scored a goal apiece for the Lady Gators, who improved to 2-1.
The BA varsity girls (2-3) also played but lost 5-0 despite an outstanding performance by Abi Foy.
Both squads travel to Dublin Monday to take on region foe Trinity Christian School.

The Statesboro High girls soccer team lost at Evans 1-0 Tuesday. Keeper Christa Mitchell recorded 17 saves and Brittany Hood had two. The Lady Devils fell to 3-4-2 on the year and travel to Southeast Bulloch for 6 p.m. game Thursday. The JV play first at 4:30 p. m.

Matt Simons threw a complete game and struck out seven to lead the Bulloch Academy baseball team to a 12-7 region win at Edmund Burke Academy Tuesday. At the plate, the Gators (3-7, 2-2) were led by Drew Cheshire (3-for-4, double, triple), Matthew Sapp (2-for-3, double) and Scott Hendley (2-for-3, double). The Gators travel to Frederica for a 4 p.m. game Friday.

The Statesboro tennis team met on the court with Richmond Hill Monday. The boys (5-1, 1-1) won 5-0 with Jordan Jones (8-2), Alex Yang (8-1) and John Washington (8-2) all won in singles play. Michael Campbell and Tyler Richardson won 8-4 and Jeffrey Corley and Samay Bhushan won 8-0 in doubles play.
The Lady Blue Devils (0-6, 0-2) fell 3-2 with Olivia Burnsed (8-3) and Rachel Nevil (8-1) picking up singles wins.
Statesboro will resume region play on Thursday when it travels to Greenbrier.

shoots 70
Bulloch Academy junior Mark Rocker fired a 2-under 70 Monday at the Dublin Country Club to take second in the Trinity Christian School Invitational.
Rocker beat out 88 other competitors and was just three strokes behind winner Russell Hendley of Stratford Academy, who has verbally committed to the University of Georgia on a golf scholarship.
As a team, the Gators finished 13th out of 18 teams. Host Trinity Christian School won the tourney while Stratford Academy was second.
Bulloch Academy hosts a multi-team match at Forest Heights Country Club Thursday.

Relay For Life

A softball and half-rubber tournament will be held Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 at the Screven County Recreation Complex to benefit Relay for Life.
Live entertainment, a dunking booth and concessions will all be part of the event which begins at 7 p.m. on Friday. All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. Admission is free but donations will be gladly accepted.
