Local Roundup: BA snags big region road win

    DUBLIN — The Bulloch Academy baseball team beat Trinity Christian 4-3 Tuesday for a big region road win.
    The Gators (5-3, 1-1 GISA Region 2-AA) got the go-ahead RBIs from Win Lee. Taylor Burke was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, David Howell got the win on the mound and Matt Simmons picked up the save.
    Bulloch hosts Memorial Day on Friday at 4 p.m.

Lakeside slips by Lady Devils
    EVANS — A breakaway goal by Lakeside in the 65th minute gave the Lady Panthers a win over visiting Statesboro on Tuesday.
    The contest was in stark contrast to Lakeside’s 7-0 win over SHS (2-8-2) earlier this season. Whitney Lucas had 15 saves in goal and defensemen Ukachi Ugorgi, Hunter Futch and Jessie Mooney were a wall for most the match. SHS fell to 2-5 in Region 3-AAAA play.
    The Lady Blue Devils host Greenbrier on Thursday at Mill Creek for a 6 p.m. start.

SEB splits with Effingham

    BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch tennis teams split with Effingham County on Tuesday.
    William Groover and Sean Brannen won the pivotal final doubles match, 6-1, 5-7 and 6-4, to take the match 3-2.
    Brandon Sellers (7-5, 6-1) won in singles play. Brooks Edenfield and Will Jones won their doubles match 6-2, 6-2. Southeast improved to 6-2 overall.
    The Lady Yellow Jackets (3-5) dropped their match 4-1. Jordan Sherrod was the lone winner for SEB in singles play, 7-5, 6-4.
    Southeast will travel to Jefferson County on Thursday for a 4 p.m. match.

Calvary tops Portal
    SAVANNAH — Calvary Day held Portal to two hits for a 7-1 win on Tuesday.
    Derek Finch was 1-for-3 and Chad Busby was 1-for-2 for PHS (2-7, 1-4 Region 3-A).
    The Panthers host Emanuel County Institute on Friday at 5 p.m.

Screven baseball tops Josey
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County baseball team beat Josey 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday.
    Phillip Reeder went the distance for the win, allowing just two hits and striking out six. He also cranked out two hits at the plate, one of which was a triple, and he drove in one.
    Jeremy Rosier was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and eight Gamecocks had at least one hit.
    Screven (6-5, 4-1 Region 3-AA) host Jenkins County today at 5:30 p.m.

Gators sweep RTCA
    The Bulloch Academy tennis teams swept Robert Toombs Tuesday at Forest Heights Country Club.
    The boys (4-1) won 3-2 with Paul Son (8-4), Matt Williamson (8-1) and Brandon Walker (8-1) won in singles play.
    The Lady Gators (4-1) won 4-1, getting singles wins from Kate Anna Akins (8-2), Mary Catherine Speigner (8-0) and McKenzie Webb (8-0). Betsy Woodrum and Morgan Anderson (8-3) won in doubles play.
    Bulloch will be at Trinity Christian in Dublin on Thursday.

SHS tennis tops SEB
    The Statesboro tennis teams defeated Southeast Bulloch last Thursday.  
    Matthew Eziashi (8-4), John Washington (8-0) and Mack Sanders (8-3) all won in singles play for SHS. Jefferey Corley and Samay Bhushan(8-6) and Josh Pollack and Brian Quill (8-1) won in doubles play.
    In the girls’ match, Olivia Burnsed (8-3) won in singles play, Brittney Anderson and McKenzie Bragg (8-5) and Olivia Chester and Bonnie Hannah (8-5) won in doubles.
    SHS travels to Richmond Hill on Thursday.

Lakeside sweeps SCHS tennis
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County tennis teams were swept by Lakeside on Tuesday.
    The Lady Gamecocks lost 5-0, falling to 10-3 on the year. The boys also lost 5-0, moving to 7-6.
    SCHS hosts Savannah Country Day today at 4 p.m.

Rocker wins golf match
    Bulloch Academy senior Mark Rocker fired a 74 to win low medalist honors in a three-team golf match Monday at Forest Heights Country Club.
    Other top BA finishers were Jordan Herrington (84) and Trey Elerson (87). The Gators shot a 355 to finish third.
    Bulloch Academy hosts a four-team match Thursday at Forest Heights Country Club.

Calvary shuts out SCHS
    SAVANNAH — Calvary Day shut down Screven County 6-0 on Tuesday in girls soccer.
    Christi Boston had 23 saves for SC (7-3, 2-3 Region 3-A/AA).
    The Lady Gamecocks will be at Savannah Christian on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. match.  

City and County bowling results
    Results are in from the City and County Bowling League for the week of March 19.
    In Scratch Games, George Adkins (244), Wayne Cannady (235), Clymon Tanner (235), Charles Kindig (234) and William Winkler (232) posted high scores.
    In Scratch Series, Adkins (642), Robert Black (608), Tanner (606), Carl Givens (586) and Judd Turner (585) led the league.
    In Handicap Games, Winkler (260), Adkins (258), Kindig (2530, Givens (251) and Cannady (247) were tops in the competition.
    In Handicap Series, Black (686), Adkins (684), Givens (667), Adkins (650) and Kindig (649) bowled top games.

GSU basketball camps
    Dates for the 2008 Jeff Price Basketball Camps have been announced. The first session runs June 9-13 and the second is July 14-18. The camps are for boys and girls, rising grades 2nd-9th.
    The cost for all campers is $150.
