Eagles complete sweep of Warhawks

Georgia Southern baseball completed the sweep over ULM on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Warhawks 7-1. The Eagles improved to 17-13 overall and 7-5 in conference play, while the Warhawks fall to 11-17 and 3-9 in conference play. Jordan Jackson pitched seven innings of seven-hit baseball, allowing one run and striking out five. Jackson improved to 2-4 on the season. 
In the bottom of the first inning the Eagles erupted for four runs to put the pressure on the Warhawks. Mason McWhorter singled to left center and advanced to third on an error by the center fielder. Christian Avant doubled down the line in right to score McWhorter, while Noah Ledford crushed his 11th home run of the season.
In the second Steven Curry singles to left and Jason Swan scores from second. In the eighth ULM broke up the shutout with a solo shot to left center field. In the bottom half the Eagles would respond, as Curry hit the third home run of his career to left field. 
Georgia Southern will close out a five-game home stand with two midweek games this week, before beginning a seven-game road trip.

  • Noah Ledford hit his 11th home run of the season on Sunday, a 398-foot shot over the scoreboard in left.
  • Mason McWhorter moved into a tie for third all-time in doubles for his career with 61. 
  • Jordan Jackson picked up the victory on Sunday improving to 2-4 on the season. He worked the longest outing for an Eagle this season, going seven innings of one-run baseball. 
  • Steven Curry homered to left field, his third career home run. He becomes the eighth different Eagle to homer this season. 
  • Braden Hays and Jordan Jackson combined to strike out 10 ULM batters on Sunday afternoon. 
Georgia Southern will host the first of two midweeks on Tuesday at J.I. Clements Stadium against North Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
