georgiasouthernlogo

BOSTON, Mass. — Georgia Southern's Victor Roache and Chris Beck competed in the 2011 Cape Cod League All-Star baseball game for the West Division at Fenway Park Friday.
The contest, in which Roache, who is at or near the top of the league in batting average (2nd — .328), home runs (2nd — 6) and RBIs (1st — 28) start at designated hitter, and Beck pitched a scoreless inning, was broadcasted throughout the eastern part of the country on numerous regional sports networks and was won by the East Divison 4-1.
Roache did not get a hit in his three at-bats, but hit two home runs in the home run derby which preceded the All-Star Game.
One of the homers soared over the famous Green Monster in left field.
The derby was won by Clemson’s Richie Shaffer, who hit six.
Beck, who was a late addition to the all-star roster, was the fourth pitcher for the West team and was the only pitcher over a four-inning stretch to not allow a run.
He responded after the previous two pitchers allowed three total runs and he shutdown the East Division with 20 pitches, 14 for strikes, in the fourth inning.

UGA to unveil new video board
ATHENS (AP) — Officials say a new video board will be in place at Sanford Stadium when the University of Georgia Bulldogs open the football season.
Brookings, S.D.-based Daktronics Inc. said in a statement the video display is about 36 feet high and 73 feet wide.
Company officials say the video board can be operated as an independent display showing single large images or be divided in multiple windows to display statistics, information graphics, animations, and live and recorded video.
Sanford Stadium, with a seating capacity of more than 92,000, is the seventh-largest stadium in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Georgia opens its season Sept. 3 vs. Boise State in Atlanta. Its first game at Sanford Stadium is Sept. 10, when the Bulldogs host South Carolina.
