Local Roundup: Lady Eagles ready for Auburn tourney

    Georgia Southern softball continues a 16-game road trip beginning today at the War Eagle Classic at Auburn’s Jane B. Moore Field.
    The Eagles face Marshall (11 a.m.) and Auburn (1:30 p.m.) before moving to the night bracket for Saturday’s games against Belmont (6:30 p.m.) and Middle Tennessee St. (9 p.m.).

Savannah Christian sweeps Screven
    SAVANNAH — The Screven County Gamecocks boys (1-2)  and girls (2-1) teams each fell 3-2 to Savannah Christian on the tennis courts Thursday on the road.
    Kelsey Forehand won a singles match for the girls (2-1), winning 6-4, 7-6 (16-14).
    Doubles pair Lauren Basemore and Mallorie Boswell won 6-2, 6-1.
    Two of the three losses came down to three sets.
    Eli Woods was a winner for the boys, 6-2, 6-2, and Chris Powell won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
    Screven travels to Augusta to take on Laney Wednesday.

Gamecocks drop a pair
    The Screven baseball team lost its opener to Effingham Monday 13-0 and fell to South Effingham 7-6 Thursday.
    The Gamecocks play today at Jenkins County.

Claxton tops Wheeler
    ALAMO — Led offensively by Bishop Bullard and Rick Hall, the Claxton Tigers (1-1) defeated Wheeler County 10-1 Thursday.
    Chandler Jenkins got the win on the mound.
    Claxton travels to Emanuel County INstute today for a 6 p.m. first pitch.   
 
SEB Hall of Fame nominations
    Southeast Bulloch is now receiving Athletic Hall Of Fame nominations for the April 30th 2011 Hall Of Fame Banquet. Deadline is today.
    Nomination forms can be downloaded from the school’s athletic web site or you can pick up forms at the high school attendance office.
    The deadline to submit forms is today.
