The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets made the most of playing on their home turf as the Lady Jackets claimed the Area golf championship getting some balanced scoring. As they qualified for the state Class-AAA playoffs.

The Jackets got balanced scoring which is always a key in team competition. Senior Katelyn Moore led the way with an 89, followed by Haley Hammet with a 91 and Chloe Cochran with a 92. Maylin Swint carded a 94 and Paisley Nordeoff rounded things out with a 98.

“Being a senior and going out and winning an Area Championship was our first goal,” Moore said. “We still have an end goal in our sights. I’m proud of our team, we have practiced hard to get better every week and everyone on this team improved from last year.”

The 272 score of the top three golfers is a school record and coach Randy Lee goes into the state tournament with some optimism.

“Today was a good day for our team,” Lee said. “Every girl broke 100 for the first time this year.  I’m so proud of this group. They have worked so hard to get better and when you get counting scores from the one, three and five positions it shows the depth of talent. We don’t have a superstar but they as a group are tough to beat.  Chloe gave us her career best score at the number five spot. She was consistently good all day.  These girls are special not because of golf but because they are just amazing young ladies and it’s a privilege to be their coach.

This will be the fourth-straight trip to the state for Southeast Bulloch and Lee feels the past experience will serve them well.

“I believe going into this year’s State Championship we will be ready to compete for that top spot,” Lee said. “All these girls played in it last year and experience at this level is a huge factor.  I know Haley Maylin and paisley were not satisfied with their scores today and will be ready in 3 weeks in Lagrange.  If we can put it all together for two days, we could shock the state and walk away with the trophy.”

The Southeast Bulloch boys competed in the area as well but fell short of advancing to the state tournament.
