BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The 2012 season will continue for Georgia Southern women’s soccer after the eighth-seeded Eagles took a 1-0 win over fifth-seeded Elon on Friday evening in the Semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament.
GSU out-shot the Phoenix in regulation, but scored the game-winner on a cross which was headed home by freshman Emily Hirano in the 102nd minute. GSU will make its third appearance in the SoCon Tournament Final on Sunday afternoon with the Eagles seeking their first league title in program history.

Tattnall tops SEB
REIDSVILLE — The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets (4-5, 2-4 Region I-AAA) got into an offensive shootout against Tattnall County, and Warriors quarterback Brandon Purce;ll was the difference.
Tattnall (5-4, 4-2) defeated the Yellow Jackets, 45-25, Friday.
"I thought both teams played extremely hard," said SEB coach Pat Collins. "I though both teams showed great sportsmanship, and Tattnall deserved the win. But I was extremely encouraged by our spirit and our effort, even though it didn't go our way against Tattnall."
Antonio McMillan led SEB with three rushing touchdowns, and Matt McBride scored on a pass from Cole Carter.
Reed Hadden's extra point was good for the final margin.
` The Jackets play their final regular-season game at home against Appling County Friday in Broiklet at Fred shaver Field.
Eagles VB opens home stretch
The Georgia Southern volleyball team, currently in first place in the Southern Conference South Division and riding an eight-match win streak, caps the regular season with a four-game homestand, beginning Saturday with a 7 p.m. contest against Western Carolina.
Fans can get into the match against the Catamounts for $1 if they present their football ticket from the GSU-Appalachian State game, which kicks off at 2 p.m. at Paulson Stadium.
Georgia Southern (20-6, 11-1 SoCon) topped College of Charleston 3-1 last Friday and downed The Citadel 3-0 Saturday to move into first place.
