Local Roundup: GSU baseball game against Samford postponed

    The Friday series opener between the Georgia Southern Eagles and the Samford Bulldogs has been postponed due to rain.
    The series will now begin with a doubleheader Saturday at noon.

#6 Alabama tops Eagles
    CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Georgia Southern Softball gave No. 6 Alabama all it wanted on Friday afternoon, dropping a 6-4 result at UNC’s Anderson Softball Stadium. The Eagles led early and tied the game twice before a walk-off home run gave the Crimson Tide the win.
    The game’s attendance, 1,863 set a new record at the UNC Softball Stadium.
    After an infield single by Lexi Allen to open the seventh, AJ Hamilton went yard for the fourth time this season. The home run tied the game again, this time at 4-4 as the Eagles stayed alive in the game.
    In the bottom half of the seventh, Alabama got a leadoff walk to place the winning run on first. Cleanup hitter Jadyn Spencer did the damage, lofting a home run to centerfield to secure the 6-4 win for the Crimson Tide.

Lady Gamecocks roll past Josey
    SYLVANIA — Six Screven County soccer players found the back of the net at least once as the Lady Gamecocks had no problem in a 10-0 win over Josey on Thursday.
   Haleigh Thompson scored three times to lead Screven (11-6, 8-5 Region 3-AA) with the hat trick, while Anna Smith and Dana Kenp each scored twice.
    Tara Thompson, Alyssa Lee and Haley Waters each added a goal, and Tara Thompson and Haleigh Thompson each added an assist.
    Josey's lone shot on goal was saved by keeper Whitney Gay.
    Screven will play its regular-season finale on Tuesday at East Laurens.
