Unearned runs weren’t an issue for Georgia Southern Saturday in the second of a three game set against George Washington.
    In fact, neither were earned runs.
    Three different pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout as the Eagles evened the series with a 5-0 win against the Colonials at J.I. Clements Stadium.
    Junior-college transfer Josh Adams got the start, allowing only two hits in five strong innings while striking out four.
    “I don’t ever think about things like that,” said Adams about earning a win in his first-career start. “I just try to go out there, make my pitches and see if my hitters can help me out.”
    The Eagles (1-1) racked up 11 hits, including five doubles, avenging an 8-6 loss in extra innings Friday night.
    “We felt like we could have won, but we didn’t do the little things right,” said freshman second baseman Ben Morgan, who went 2-for-3 in game two. “Today, we got some bunts down, hit [opposite field] and got some runs in.”
    Georgia Southern took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when shortstop Eric Phillips doubled and Victor Roache (3-for-4) drove him in with a single to center.
    With catcher Jessee Piccolo on first with no outs in the fifth, Morgan twice tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt that rolled foul each time. He settled for a double down the right-field line on an 0-2 pitch.
    “Coach gave me the bunt signal and I couldn’t get it down, so I was just trying to put it in play,” said Morgan. “[Friday] I had some bad bounces and some bad luck, but the past is the past I’m just glad to get that out of the way.”
    Piccolo and Morgan scored on a two-run double by centerfielder Shawn Payne (2-for-3).
    An RBI single by Morgan drove in first baseman Steve Cochran in the sixth to make it 4-0, and Piccolo scored in the eighth on an Arthur Owens single.
    Matt Murray, a weekend starter in 2010, entered the game in the sixth and earned the save. He pitched 3.1 innings and struck out three.
    George Washington (1-1) stranded five runners in scoring position.
    The two teams close out the series today at 1:30 p.m. Georgia Southern’s Will Middour, a freshman right hander, is expected to start.
