Bulloch Academy will welcome 16 teams into today’s 8th Annual Gator Relays, held at Georgia Southern’s track and field facility for the first time. The event starts at 10 a.m. and should conclude around 5 p.m. according to BA head coach Clint Morgan.
“The kids are really excited,” said Morgan. “But it’s a nervous excitement. They know a lot of the school’s from higher classifications will be coming down.”
Teams as far away as Marietta (north of Atlanta) and Camilla (south of Albany) will take part in today’s meet, an event that Morgan said he had no trouble filling once word got out it would be held at GSU’s new facility next to Paulson Stadium.
Morgan expects his Gators to show well in running events, especially in the 110-meter hurdles with Ethan Lovett and in the 800-meter with Ben Stephens and Jordan Walker. The Lady Gators will look to Rachel Gilbert to have a competitive day in the long jump, triple jump and 200-meter. Susanna McKee, coming off a cross country injury, will look to work her way back to top form in the long distance events.
Georgia Southern football signee Brett Layson will compete for Tattnall Square and be one of the top competitors in the 110m hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.
Trophy’s will be given to each team who finishes first while t-shirts will be given to those who win their individual events.
Admission is $5 at the gate.
