DeLAND, Fla. -- Mr. Joe Odom, age 79, died Friday, September 13, 2024, at Advent Health in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Statesboro, Georgia, native was raised in East Savannah and Pooler, Georgia, and graduated from Groves High School in 1963.
Following high school, Joe joined the U.S. Marine Corps in August of 1963 and served during the Vietnam War until his discharge in 1967.
Joe then went on to work with the Boeing Corporation form 1967 until 1970.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1971, where he served as air traffic controller until his retirement in 1987.
Joe also owned and operated Joe’s Sip-N–Cue in Callaway, Florida. From 1987 until 1990, he was employed with Planning Research Corporation. He was employed with Loral Aerospace Services, Savannah site manager from 1990 until 1995. In 1996, he worked with JWK International Corporation as a field engineer; from 1998 until October of 1999, he worked as contract range manager site supervisor Key West TACTS/ACMI range and with Northrop Grumman Information Technology as TACTS/ACMI field engineer VI until his retirement.
Joe had resided in Statesboro and St. Marys, Georgia, and most recently in DeLand, Florida.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Odom and Cleo Bailey Odom; his wife, Deborah Mendoza Odom; a brother, Gary Odom; and a sister, Gail Odom.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Devan and Tracy Odom of St. Marys; a brother and sister-in-law, Archie and Kristi Odom; his grandchildren, Devyn Odom (Trevor Zachary), Dylan Odom (Lynn Odom) and Jacen Rains; and his great-grandchildren, Nickolas Pollock, Henry Zachary and Morgan Odom.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will be Saturday, September 28th, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro with the Rev. Jody Bryant officiating. Interment will be in the Brannen Family Cemetery on Westside Road in Statesboro, with full military honors.
