Mrs. Mary Ann Frey Olson
STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Mary Ann Frey Olson, age 86, passed away peacefully Monday morning at Willow Pond Assisted Living, under the care of Regency Southern Care Hospice.
Mary Ann was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Mary S. Frey and C. Elmer Frey. She graduated from the Philadelphia Museum School of Art with a BFA and a BS in art education. While there, she met and married the love of her life, Dr. Joseph O. Olson.
Mary Ann stayed home and lovingly raised their three children. When they were older, she worked towards her M.Ed. in library science at Georgia Southern College. She touched the lives of many students through art and her encouragement to help them gain a sense of confidence in themselves through their own creativity.
She enjoyed reading, painting, ceramics, playing bridge, cooking, needlework and sewing, but most of all enjoyed her home and family.
Mary Ann and Joe were blessed to share many years together, inspiring and encouraging each other in life through faith, art, traveling and making friends.
Mary Ann was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro, where she was a member of the Alathean Sunday School Class, the Statesboro Regional Art Association and her bridge club.
She volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady at Bulloch Memorial Hospital and at Statesboro Regional Library.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph O. Olson; sons, Joseph D. Olson and David A. Olson; and brother, Charles E. “Bud” Frey.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Olson Tippins (Cliff) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; brother, M. William “Bill” Frey of Sanibel Island, Florida; daughter-in-law, Lou Ann Olson of Waco, Texas; daughter-in-law, Katie Olson of Statesboro; grandchildren, Cassie A.
