Register, Ga. — Mr. Herman David Sheffield, age 51, died on Friday, December 21, 2018, at his residence following an extended illness. The Statesboro native was a retired business owner and farmer. David loved boating, camping, working on small engines, attending church, but most of all, spending time with his family and his beloved pet, Layla. He was a member at the Aaron Worship Center where he was a member of the church choir and men’s fellowship.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Maxann Roberts and Bernice Sheffield; a brother, Ricky Sheffield; father-in-law, Roy Henry Johnson; and a nephew, Charles “Buddy” Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Deborah Sheffield; one son, Nathan (Ashley) Smith of Portal; a daughter, Haley (Dave) Hardy of Charleston; Godchildren, Dustin (Savannah) Johnson of Portal, Christian (Austin) Spell of Statesboro, and Dewayne Warren of Statesboro; eight grandchildren, Chase, Carter, and Colby Smith, Makaila Johnson, Jolie and Jace Lanier, Cheyanne Jackson, and Emerson Horton; three brothers, Buck (Sharon) Sheffield of Statesboro, Tony (Tammie) Smith of Portal, and Sean (Haley) Howard of Statesboro; stepfather, Earl Roberts of Register; mother-in-law, Ada (Denver) Stills; sisters-in-law, Martha (Bobby) Brown and Sandra (Mark) Johnson; a brother-in law, Bruce Johnson of Portal; special nieces and nephews, Madison (William) Hardiman, Sara Sheffield, Jessica (David) Poss, Dana Johnson, John, Jake, and Baylee Howard, Bridget Hendrix, Lee Hendrix, and Trey Bolton; as well as close friends, Clayton Anderson, Junior Anderson, and Donald Bolton, Jr.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
