Savannah-based television station WSAV will broadcast two newscasts using anchor teams live in Statesboro Thursday afternoon.
WSAV will create a set at City Hall in downtown and produce live broadcasts of its “First News at 5” and “News 3 at 5:30” shows with anchors Tina Tyus-Shaw, Andrew Davis, Holly Bounds and chief meteorologist Kris Allred. The event is the premiere broadcast for the station’s “Hometown Live!” newscast series.
“Statesboro, with its vibrant arts and business community and diverse population is the perfect place to launch Hometown Live!,” said Deb Thompson, general manager at WSAV. “We are looking forward to the opportunity that this broadcast provides for connecting personally with the people of Statesboro and showcasing the communities many attractions to those who may not yet have had the opportunity to visit.”
The hour-long broadcast will include segments about Statesboro people, places and history, including the contributions of Georgia Southern University.
A contingent of the GSU Marching Band will perform and members of the cast of “Annie” will offer a special preview of the upcoming show at the Averitt Center.
The WSAV production team and anchors will be on site at City Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
