A woman reported being raped Sunday in a Georgia Southern University apartment complex, but told police she did not wish to press charges at the time.

According to GSU police reports, submitted to the Statesboro Herald upon an Open Records request, the victim said she believes she was raped sometime early Sunday morning at Southern Courtyard apartments on Knight Drive.

The victim, along with a group of males and females, including two of her cousins, went to Midtown Bar and Grill on Brannen Street Saturday night. Reports indicated drugs were involved in the incident but did not specify whether the victim or suspect had been drinking.

After the group left the bar, they ended up at one woman’s home, the Southern Courtyard apartment. After socializing a while, one woman and a man went to sleep in a bedroom while the victim and two other men remained in the common area, reports stated.

The victim said she and one of the men watched videos on the other man’s computer, then they fell asleep. She awoke, went to take a shower and noticed pain in her private areas, reports stated.

She said she didn’t suspect one man because he was her cousin, but when asked, the other man denied any sexual contact had taken place.

The victim submitted clothing to investigators and was taken to The Teal House, a counseling and treatment center for sexual assault victims. She declined to press charges at the time of report.
