Georgia State Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that took place near Georgia Southern University early Thursday morning.
Around 3:37 a.m., a woman was struck by a car as she apparently crossed the intersection of Lanier Drive and Veterans Memorial Parkway, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 45 spokesperson Ginger Robbins.
Bulloch County Deputy Coroner Craig Tremble said late Thursday that the 35-year-old white female’s identity would not yet be released, as family members had not yet been located and notified.
Robbins said reports had not been completed and additional information was not immediately available. A trooper who worked the accident did not return messages seeking comment Thursday.
A WTOC TV reporter at the scene said the car that hit the woman apparently had been driven a short distance away before being abandoned.
Tremble said the woman died at East Georgia Regional Medical Center due to her injuries, and her body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Savannah for an autopsy.
